Spring break is here, and my daughter Bean is spending a lot of the time curled on the couch, reading. She’s a veracious reader and has been spending this spring break reading some old favorites like Ivy and Bean and The Critter Club along with tackling some of my favorite books from childhood– James and the Giant Peach, Matilda and The Ramona Books. Turtle wants to do everything that Bean does, but at 4 years old he’s not yet reading, so he’s been spending a lot of time curled next to her, looking at picture books and occasionally being read to by big sis. He’s already surprised me by being able to pick out some sight words, and I have no doubt that he’ll start reading soon. My husband and I met working at the same bookstore, and our mutual love of books is one of the things that drew us to each other. It makes me really happy to see that my kids love books as much as I do.
Earlier this week, I dragged Bella away from her novels to do a bit of crafting with me. I thought it would be fun to make some bookmarks to use in her books. We pulled out the washi tape, cardstock and exacto knife and opened Cricut Design Space to create some fun designs.
Since Easter is right around the corner and we’re hoping that spring will show up anytime, we decided to do Spring and Easter themed bookmarks. Bean asked for a bunny and a butterfly, Turtle asked for a puppy and an Easter egg and I threw in the flower design.
I love putting things out for the Easter Egg Hunt that aren’t candy, and these bookmarks fit the bill! They take less than 10 minutes to make and each one can be completely different depending on the washi tape you use to decorate it with!

10 Minute Craft Project- DIY Animal Shaped Washi Tape Bookmarks
Materials:
–Washi Tape in assorted designs and colors (I also love using Mini Duck Tape for this project. It sticks really well and comes in adorable designs. The puppy bookmark was made using Dog and Bone Mini Duck Tape.)
–Cardstock (I think it’s fun using cardstock in assorted colors for this project since the back of the bookmark isn’t covered in tape.)
–Utility Knife (This is the one that I used for this project.)
–Cutting Mat (If you don’t have one you could also do this on top of a thick cardboard box.)
-My bookmark design file (or you can make your own!)
-Optional: Laminator
Directions:
Step 1: Lay washi tape over cardstock. The designs I created are between 2 to 3 inches wide and 7 inches long, so I covered sections of cardstock that were 3 inches wide by 7 inches long.
Step 2: Open my bookmark design file in Cricut Design Space. Click “Go” to cut. Lay your cardstock washi tape side down on the cutting mat. Position the cut so that it cuts in the right spot on your cutting mat. Set your dial to Cardstock+ and then cut!
Step 3: Remove the cut bookmark from the cutting mat. For extra durability laminate the bookmark and then cut around your design.
