10 Nostalgic Television Shows and Movies that Bring You Back to YOUR Childhood

Do you remember the Popples? Those delightful bright-coloured plush toys that roll into themselves so that when in, they become a ball, and when out they are a stuffed creature?

I found one – an original! And just had to buy one for my daughter/myself. She was delighted in a small way, not really comprehending the significance. I am, I assure you, not playing with the toy but seeing it lying around the house just makes me smile with those memories of my own childhood.

While television didn’t play a huge part of my childhood – we were too busy being outside running wild – television still has a way of bringing me back in time.

You can’t even imagine my delight when shortly after the thrift store find, I discovered that Netflix was streaming the Popples television show. And of course it took no time at all for my children to catch on and start watching. I thought it would be fun to find more shows available on Netflix that will transport you and I back in time. Here you go, share them with you kids and create new memories.

Cinderella

This live action version lives up the original and still has my daughter talking about those nasty stepsisters.

Strawberry Shortcake: The Sweet Dreams Movie

I was a huge fan of Strawberry Shortcake when I was a little girl. In fact, she may have been my favourite. I still have the bag my mom made for me out of Strawberry Shortcake fabric and now my little girl uses it to collect her toys.

I love that they brought Strawberry Shortcake back, and that you can find this movie on Netflix.

short films

Walt Disney Animated Short Films Collection

About the Show: While this series of short films includes some new favourites (including one of the Frozen sisters), there are some gems in here that will transport you back in time, including one featuring Goofy that really brought me back.

Care Bears & Cousins

A brand new Netflix original featuring those love-able bears and their powerful tummies. We all remember Care Bears don’t we? What fun they are staging a comeback!

I am not sure My Little Pony ever went out of style. What an enduring toy. I can remember playing with these as a child, and now my daughter does too.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

Everyone must remember this classic! For all of those who dream of calling in sick, Ferris remains our hero.

What is your favourite show from childhood? Do you love how it takes you back?
