Ready to get creative and start sewing Here are 6 quick and easy sewing projects, perfect for beginners that can be made in one hour or less from Hello Creative Family
The sound of my mother’s sewing machine, chugging through project after project, is one of the noises in the soundtrack of my childhood. Both of my parents were creatives– My mom sewing, drawing, helping with kids craft projects at my elementary school, baking & experimenting with recipes for our dinner. My dad a builder, building custom homes by day, tinkering in his wood shop by  night and weekend. Whenever I hear the whir of an electric saw or catch a whiff of sawdust I think of my dad.

I have no doubt that the reason I am creative today, is because I was raised by creative parents.

I was 10 years old when I got my first sewing machine, an antique singer sewing machine, collected from under a pile of nicknacks at a school rummage sale. For Christmas that year my parents had my sewing machine refurbished for me, and the following summer I took sewing classes for kids at a local sewing machine shop.  My daughter still uses the pillowcase we made in that class!

When I became a teenager my sewing table became my makeup table and my creative passion turned from sewing into acting. My sewing days were over until about a year after the birth of my daughter. At some point between my teens and my late 20’s I had lost myself creatively and I was seeking to find my creative self.

My in-laws loaned me a long unused sewing machine and I started sewing again. First for my daughter, then for neighborhood friends and eventually selling in my very own Etsy store. When I started my blog, Sew Creative, I thought that the site would have a lot more sewing on it, it turns out that the site opened the door for me to express myself creatively in a multitude of ways, not just sewing.

Through the last two years of writing Sew Creative, one thought kept coming to me over and over and over again– Creative parents raise creative kids, but sometimes adults lose their creative self once they get married and have kids.

That’s the driving force behind our new site, Hello Creative Family. We want to help inspire you and assist you in finding your creative spark so that you can raise your children in a homemade, handmade, heart-made home.

If you’ve been tempted to dabble in sewing I encourage you not to wait! Read on for the best sewing projects for beginners that I’ve published on Sew Creative over the past 2 years. They are quick, easy and I’m never more than an email away (crystal@hellocreativefamily.com) if you need some help!
