This pretty neck warmer looks like it would crochet up quickly and make a perfect weekend project.

One of the things that I love about So Pretty Crochet is that it’s a collection of crochet projects from a variety of crafty people. The Scalloped-Edge Neck Warmer project was created by Janelle Haskin.

SCALLOPED-EDGE NECK WARMER

“What I love most about crocheting is that it starts off as a simple skein of yarn, and it’s up to you to turn it into something someone will love.”- Janelle Haskin

Chunky and oversized, this piece is a bold statement that will keep you cozy and looking pulled together. The decorative scallops and round shape elevate it above a basic scarf, making it an accessory that deserves to be worn indoors and out.

MATERIALS

2 skeins (6 oz/170 g and 106 yd/97 m) Lion Brand Wool-Ease Super Bulky Thick & Quick in Fisherman

Size S/35/19 mm crochet hook

Scissors

To start making the scalloped edging, ch 41 and join with a sl st to form a ring, being careful not to twist chain.

Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc 5 times in the sl st join of the first ch from Step 1, sl st in next ch—first scallop completed.

Sc 1 in next ch.

[Dc 6 times in the next ch, sl st in next ch]—next scallop completed, sc 1 in the next ch.

Rep Step 4 until you have com-pleted 15 scallops, ending the last scallop with a sl st into base of the first scallop.

Make another sl st through the ch in the ring of first scallop.

Flip the ring of scallops right-side up and bring the crochet hook and yarn through the ring.

Moving on to the body of the neck warmer, ch 1 and sc in every chain until you complete the rnd. (41 sc) Finish with a sl st in the first ch-1 of this step.

Ch 3 (counts as first dc), then complete 10 rnds of dc.

10 Ch 1, then do 1 rnd of sc (sc in each dc top).

11 Finish with a sl st in the beginning of sc round, fasten off, and weave in any loose ends.

VARIATIONS

* Make these two-tone by crocheting the scallops in a slightly different shade than the body of the neck warmer.

* Simplify by skipping the scallops and start with Step 8 to make the body of the neck warmer with a basic chain stitch.

* Add an embellishment to one side of the front to dress it up. Try a vintage brooch or a silk or crocheted flower.
