COUNTDOWN TO CHRISTMAS DAY 15 GIFTS FOR FOODIES:
FOUR FABULOUS BC WINES
Yesterday on Sew Creative we shared with you the book Had A Glass 2014 which recommends wine that is less than $20 a bottle. Today I thought we would take it in the opposite direction and share 4 bottles of BC wine that are $20 or over. Show up with one of these bottles as a hostess gift and you are guaranteed to be invited again and again.
Gift Idea #1- Haywire Gewürztraminer 2012 We served this wine at our Christmas party last weekend. I was excited to try it because this wine is 100% stainless steel fermented. The wine has grapefruit, floral, fresh aromas and flavours, with a crisp, refreshing finish. Tasting notes suggest serving with Asian cuisine or simply enjoyed on its own. Made in a small lot at the state-of–the-art Okanagan Crush Pad winery in Summerland, BC from grapes grown at Secrest Vineyard, a cool, mountain setting in Oliver. A beautiful aromatic white wine that would make a great addition to any holiday potluck gathering.
Crush Pad has a wine club for customers who purchase two or more cases of wine per year. Perks include front of line access at events, behind the scenes tour of Crush Pad and access to limited edition wines.
Gift Idea #2- Perseus – Invictus 2010 Invictus is the Latin word for “Unconquerable” which is the perfect word for this amazing blended red wine with it’s classic structure, depth, and complexity. A blend of the five Bordeaux grapes, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec, the wine has a structure and balance that displays an outpouring of elegant black fruit, leather, rich earthy tones and a trace of cigar box. Bold, intriguing and age-worthy. Best served decanted alongside rich, savoury dishes of duck, beef or lamb. This wine is the perfect wine to serve when you are trying to impress whether you are entertaining your boss, a potential client or your in-laws.
Perseus has a wine club for customers who purchase 1 or more cases of wine per year and an Elite wine club for customers who purchase 4 or more cases. Wine club member perks include access to limited edition small lot wines, wine concierge service and VIP discount.
Gift Idea #3- Serendipity – Sauvignon Blanc 2012 The Serendipity Sauvignon Blanc is like springtime in a bottle (aka a great way to beat those winter blues). This wine is made in the New Zealand style with a herbaceous nose featuring the traditional grassy notes together with dill, lime, pink grapefruit, ripe cantaloupe melon and asparagus. The taste has flavors of: kiwi, lime and pear with hints of minerality. Tasting notes suggest pairing with fish, shrimp, or mushroom and goat cheese bruschetta. We adore the label and plan on keeping this bottle around long after the wine inside has been consumed.
Serendipity Winery also has a wine club with options to have wine automatically shipped to you 2-3 times a year. One of the perks of the wine club is having a row of vines named after you and being able to spend a day on the vineyard to visit your row and learn how to prune, pick your grapes or participate in whatever the vines are needing at the time of your visit.
Gift Idea #4- Summerhill Pyramid Winery – Cipes Brut If you watch the Real Housewives of Vancouver you were given a glimpse into this incredible winery and the spirituality of the sacred chamber of The Pyramid. The Cipes Brut is a highly anticipated BC sparkling wine that has won gold medals every year since introduced in 1991. A blend of approximately 65% Riesling, 25% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Blanc with notes of peach, apple, pear, almond, citrus and toast. It is extremely food versatile so don’t wait for a special occasion… create one! We love it as the welcome for guests, or that special gift to make someone else’s day sparkle. Order a case of this sparkling wine and it ships anywhere in Canada for free.
Summerhill Pyramid Winery also has a wine club that celebrates being an organic winery and a steward of the planet. Perks include regular mailings of Summerhill Pyramid wines, discounts and VIP treatment at the winery.
For added flare when opening a bottle of Summerhill Pyramid Cipes Brut here Leeann from Town Hall Communications shares how to open a bottle with a sword.
I hope you enjoyed today’s edition of the Sew Creative Countdown to Christmas Gifts for Foodies and the fabulous BC wines that we recommended.
I’ll be back tomorrow with Day 16 of my Great Gifts Countdown To Christmas.
Tell me… How do you decide which wine to buy? Are you a label person? Do you carefully research wines? Take suggestions from friends? Do you have a favorite wine that you love to recommend? We’d love to hear.
*A big thank you to Leeann and the team from Town Hall Brands for sending The Hubs and I the above wines to sample at our holiday get togethers. All thoughts and opinions on this blog are 100% my own. I approached Town Hall Brands to take part in my Holiday Gift Guide because I love the wine that they represent and they are gifts that I would love to give (and receive).
