This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Cricut. The opinions and text are all mine.

If you have ever had a discussion with me about crafting, chances are that we’ve discussed my love of my Cricut cutting machines. I’m pretty much obsessed with Cricut. It’s my one crafting tool in my craft room that I use multiple times per week. In fact I use it so much that I’ll often have more than one machine cutting at once!

I think everyone, whether they craft or not should own a Cricut. Why? Because it will open the doors to a whole new world of creating. I think that creativity makes the world a happier place and I want to spread that happiness far and wide.

Once you start using a Cricut the possibilities are endless of all the things you can create.

I own one Cricut Explore, one Cricut Explore Air, two Cricut Explore Air 2’s and one Cricut Maker. I love all my machines, but my Cricut Maker is my favorite because it can do all the things that the Cricut Explore Air 2 can do… and more!

Here are 5 reasons why I love my Cricut Maker:

Reason 1: The Cricut Adaptive Tools System-

Feel like engraving a bracelet or dog tag? The Cricut Maker has an Engraving Tip! Love sewing and quilting? The Cricut Maker has a Rotary Blade! Want to cut awesome home decor pieces out of chipboard, basswood or balsa wood? Pop a Knife Blade into your Cricut Maker!

Cricut’s Adaptive Tool System delivers 10 times more cutting force as the Cricut Explore plus it has a sophisticated steering system to actively control the direction of the blade at all times! The Cricut Maker currently has 8 adaptive tools (read more about what each one does in this post here) making it easy to mix and match all different kinds of materials in your projects!

Reason 2: Cricut Access and Cricut Design Space-

With over 100,000 images (with more added weekly) and hundreds of fonts to choose from, you will never run out of things to make with Cricut Access. One of my favorite things about Cricut Access is playing with different images from the library and making them my own!

For example I took some adorable Kawaii sushi images from Cricut Access and in Cricut Design Space I added a strip, a score line and turned them into adorable magnetic bookmarks.

For today’s project I found a cat print and cut image in Cricut Access

then I changed the line type from Print and Cut to just cut. Next I found a horn in Cricut Access

I removed all the extras from the horn, sliced away the parts that I didn’t need, and then welded the horn to my cat!

Even though I wasn’t able to find exactly what I wanted in Cricut Access I was able to find all the pieces that I needed to create something that is 100% me!

Reason 3: Creating Your Own SVGs-

I love to draw and even though Cricut Access has more images than I’ll ever be able to use in my crafting life, I love having the option to create my own cut files using my ipad and to import them into Cricut Design Space.

Cricut makes it super easy to upload your own design files into Cricut Design Space so that you can bring your doodles to life!

Reason 4: Being able to make the handmade gifts of my dreams-

If you hang out here much you know that I love handmade gift giving (find our Handmade Gift Ideas Facebook Group here). The Cricut Maker is able to cut over 300 different types of materials which means that whether I want to give an etched glass casserole dish, a leather key chain, awesome coasters, a personalized pencil pouch, an adorable sleep mask, or a super sweet birthday card I have the perfect machine to make it!

Reason 5: You never know what’s going to come next!

Hello Creative Family's Cricut Maker

I think this is actually my very favorite thing about the Cricut Maker. When I got my very first Cricut Maker the only adaptive tool that was available for it was the rotary blade. I was over the moon excited to be able to cut fabric and leather with my Maker because of that one blade. A couple months later the Knife Blade hit the market. My crafting world was taken to another level as I started cutting chipboard and basswood with my Maker. Each year that I have my maker there are more and more materials that I can use with my Cricut Maker and as a creative person that sense of unknown is so exciting. I know that a lot of Cricut Explore Air 2 owners get bummed out because each new Adaptive Tool that comes out only works with the Cricut Maker– but that’s the great joy of having a Maker! You never know what material you’ll be able to work with next as the amazing team at Cricut develops new technology!

I made a sweet little project for you today using my Cricut Maker to show you how easy it is to go from cutting one kind of material to another! In the tutorial you will be cutting chipboard, felt, and vinyl!

My new book, Caticorn Crafts, comes out in just a few week! This purr-ty project is not in the book, but it seemed like a great way to celebrate my love for my Cricut Maker and the release of my upcoming book.

Read on for instructions and the cut file to make my DIY Caticorn Necklace Holder!

The brown pieces are cut out of chipboard using a knife blade. Tape your chipboard to your cutting mat and push your star wheels to the far end of the silver bar of your machine. (Find more tips for using your knife blade and cutting chipboard here.) The light pink pieces are cut out of sparkle vinyl using the fine tip blade and the dark pink, purple and blue pieces are cut out of felt using a rotary cutter.

Step 2: Let’s make some flowers! When your flowers come off your cutting mat they will look like this.

Start at the outside edge of the felt circle and roll the felt creating petals until you get to the center circle. Use glue from your glue gun to secure the flower in place.

Step 3: Weed your vinyl removing the excess vinyl and leaving your design behind on the white paper backing.

Carefully transfer the sparkle vinyl caticorn to lay on top of the chipboard caticorn smoothing away any wrinkles.

Step 4: Use your glue gun to apply the felt flowers and the bars where your cup hooks will attach to the caticorn.

I gave you the option to cover your bar that the cup hooks attach to with either a felt piece or a vinyl piece. I opted for the felt piece for my caticorn because I liked the contrast.

Use a tape measure and pen to mark where you want the cup hooks to go on your bar. Then screw the cup hooks into the bar. This can be done by hand because the chipboard accepts the screw fairly easily or you can use a drill to drill pilot holes.
