When I was a child, my mom used to draw on my lunch bag every day. She would make beautiful illustrations that, in my eyes, were worthy of gracing the pages of picture books. The lunch bag that has always stuck with me, had a drawing of Wilbur from Charlotte’s Web on it. If memory serves, it captured Wilbur as a piglet, with his long piglet eyelashes. I seem to remember him surrounded by a circle of leaves or a wreath of some sort, but that may just be my imagination. I wish that we had kept those bags. I would love to see them now.
I remember the feeling that those bags gave me– special, loved, and like my mom had all of the time in the world for me. My mom was a stay-at-home mom at that time in our lives, and I remember feeling like my sister and I were the center of her universe. It was a pretty special feeling.
Now a mom myself, I often lament that I don’t have the time to make my kids feel as special as my mom made me feel. My kids know I love them. They say that I’m the best mommy in the world. We spend time creating together. I just don’t know if I make them feel quite as special as my mom made me feel. Can any of us live up to the legacy that our mom leaves behind?
A lot of moms today suffer from mommy guilt. Many of us feel like we don’t live up to expectations, wish we had more hours in the day, and quite frankly we’re hard on ourselves!
Today, I thought I’d share with you one of my favorite DIY projects that will make your kids feel super-special, but only take you minutes to make!
DIY Secret Message Notecards
Materials:
-White Cardstock (cut into whatever size you want your notecards to be)
-White Crayon
-Colored markers in a variety of colors
Directions:
Step 1: Write your secret message on the white cardstock with white crayon. Make sure to press hard, as you want to leave a good layer of crayon wax behind.
Step 2: Leave the card at your child’s spot at the breakfast table with colored markers, or pop it in their lunchbox.
Step 3: Get your child to color all over the white cardstock to reveal the secret message.
Voila! You have a sweet and simple DIY idea that will make your kiddo feel extra special, and it only takes a few minutes to make it!
Struggling to find those extra few minutes in the morning? Having a quick and easy pre-made breakfast can be just the ticket you need on days when you want to do something extra for your little ones.
If your kids are like me, they love pizza and chances are they have tried Bagel Bites in pizza flavors! Now Bagel Bites has new breakfast Flavoured Bagel Bites! My family tried and loved the Bacon/Cheese, Bacon/Sausage/Cheese and Egg/Bacon/Cheese varieties. Who wouldn’t love bacon on a bagel??? These babies are packed full of protein, with 8-10 grams per serving, and are easy and convenient to prepare. Because let’s be honest– some mornings mama needs a break from preparing breakfast from scratch!
You can find Breakfast Bagel Bites in the freezer aisle at your favorite grocery store. Make sure to check the breakfast section, where the waffles, hash browns and other breakfast foods are.
Tell me… How do you make your kiddos feel extra special? Do you struggle with finding time to do it all? Are mornings a mad dash in your house, or laid back and easy?

I love this! I have teenagers who would be slightly mortified if I tucked this in their lunch but I would like to do this with my class! Great for so many cute little messages for all sorts of occasions. Thanks for this!

Love this idea! My boys would find this super cool!
For me I try to make special plans with them or we cook together. But my favourite is travelling with them. Day to day it’s all about making sure they are loved. The secret message is a great way to encourage them to read. Perfect for my boys starting Grade 1

cute idea. I used to cut out colourful cartoons from the newspaper and tape around it with packing clear tape and the kids kept them like trading cards
