Christmas is just around the corner and I’m counting down the days with my favorite gifts for the creative people in your life.

Day 11- Sonos Fills Your Home With Music!

I grew up in a home filled with music. Fleetwood Mac, Bonnie Raitt, Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, The Eagles, Stevie Wonder, Sting and the Police… these artists were the soundtrack to my childhood. To this day, whenever I hear the song Lovely Day by Bill Withers, my stomach starts growling for blueberry pancakes because it reminds me of Sunday morning.

Even at 23 months old I couldn’t keep the music from making me groove in my seat!

If the music wasn’t already playing when my Dad got home from work, it was on within minutes. After dinner was over and the dishes were done you would often find my Mom, Dad, sister and I having a dance party in our living room.

Even though I never seriously pursued playing a musical instrument (unless you count playing the autoharp for a year in 5th grade), music has always been a major part of my life. Music evokes memories.

Play Thing Called Love by Bonnie Raitt and I am transported back to spending summer vacation on Orcas Island as a child.

Play I Feel For You by Chaka Khan and I’m reminded of drawing pictures in the back of the studio where my mom taught aerobics classes.

Play All My Life by Linda Ronstadt and Aaron Neville and it brings me right back to my cousin’s wedding where I danced with a boy I had a crush on.

Play Dessert Rose by Sting and I’m transported to sunset in August at The Gorge where I saw Sting live in concert.

Play Kodachrome by Paul Simon and I’m brought right back to the weekend before I got married when my sister and I had a girl’s weekend in a cabin she rented.

Just like his mama! Music moves him!

Music is powerful… and it’s a love that I have passed along to my children, especially Turtle. I like to have our home filled with music, and that is why I love my Sonos Play 1 speakers.

For the past few years we have listened to music on a docking system. We would plug in our iPhone, click the music that we wanted to play and listen, then we’d need our phone for something so we’d take our phone off the dock and the music would stop. This meant that we couldn’t talk on the phone and have music playing, we couldn’t read an article on our phone and have music playing, we couldn’t check email and have music playing! Kind of a bummer for a house that loves music.

Sonos completely changed our music listening habits. The Sonos Play 1 is a wireless speaker system. Plug the Sonos into an electrical outlet, press the play button and the Sonos connects to your wifi system. Download the Sonos app to your phone and your computer and you have instant control of what plays on the Sonos. Any music that you can play on your phone or computer you can play on the Sonos– Songza, Pandora, Rdio, Radio stations, music in iTunes… You name it, chances are you can listen to it! Select the music you want to listen to with your phone or laptop, create playlists, save favorite radio stations… Play music and when your laptop or phone leaves the house… your music keeps on playing!

Another thing that I love about Sonos Play 1 is how they all work together! We have one speaker in our living room and another in our bedroom. You can have multiple Sonos speakers in your house and have them all playing the same music or all playing different music. You can also have all of them at different volumes!

Thanks to the Sonos alarm function I now wake up every morning to my favorite music.

Our home is definitely filled with more music since we received our Sonos Play 1 speakers over the summer and that makes the kids and I, very, very happy!
