How To Make A Valentine’s Day Wreath That You Can Repurpose for Any Season or Holiday
I love having a wreath on my front door all year long. We have a wall in our garage where we store them all that proves just how much I love it! On the wall there is a flip flop wreath for summer, a bird wreath for spring, a snowman embroidery hoop wreath for winter, a scarecrow wreath for halloween… the list goes on and on! The Hubs is amused by this little hobby of mine and shakes his head every time he adds another nail to the wall in the garage to hang the new wreath that we are storing.
I wanted to make a love themed wreath for our front door for Valentine’s day, but I wanted to find a way that 1 wreath could be repurposed over and over again for different holidays. I think I found the perfect way! Read on to find out how to make a Valentine’s Day wreath that you can repurpose for any season or holiday.
How To Make A Valentine’s Day Wreath That You Can Repurpose for Any Season or Holiday
Materials:
- 1 Styrofoam Wreath Form (I love these ones from FloraCraft. You can chose the size that you like. I used a 10 inch form)
- Yarn to Wrap Your Wreath Form In (I suggest picking a neutral color that you can use over and over again as a backdrop for your wreath design. I also suggest picking a bulky yarn so that it takes less yarn to wrap your wreath. I picked Bernat Mega Bulky in Light Grey Heather and used 1/2 the skein to wrap the wreath.)
- Glass Head Pins/ Sewing Pins (I like these ones because of all the fun colors they come in!)
- Crochet Hooks (I love this colorful set from Clover)
- Yarn for your crochet hearts (pick your favorite color to play with!)
- Scissors
Step 1. Tie the end of your yarn onto your wreath and wrap, wrap, wrap, the yarn around until your entire wreath is covered. If you want to you can glue gun the yarn to the wreath as well, but I like the idea of being able to COMPLETELY reuse everything in this project if I wanted to. When you get to the end cut your yarn and tuck the other end under your first knot and tie off. This will be the back of your wreath.
When you are done wrapping your wreath it should look something like this. This is now the backdrop for any wreath that you want to make in the future, you just need to change the decorations that you add to the wreath. We are going to attach our embellishments with straight pins so that they can easily be changed or reconfigured.
Step 2. Crochet a bunch of adorable little crochet hearts. I always turn to this tutorial from Salt For The Spirit, the hearts are so easy to make and are adorable. These are the same hearts that I used in my Crochet Heart Mug Cozy Tutorial. Sometimes I make these little hearts and give them to people just to let them know I’m thinking of them. One of my besties has one hanging from her rearview mirror in her car.
Step 3. Trim the tails from your crochet hearts and then pin them to the foam wreath in whatever configuration that you would like. Using straight pins into the styrofoam instead of hot glue gunning the hearts to the wreath lets you reposition the hearts in whatever configuration you would like and after Valentine’s Day take the hearts off and replace them with your embellishments for the next holiday!
Step 4: Once you have decided on your configuration, tie some yarn to the top of the wreath to hang your wreath with and hang it on your door! When the holiday is over, take it down, remove the pins and the hearts and add new embellishments for the next holiday!
Voila! You are all done… until the next holiday comes knocking!
