How is Valentine’s Day just 3 days away?!?!? Is it just me or is time slip, slip, slipping away? I’m horribly behind this Valentine’s Day. Lucky for me, Bean is so excited about this holiday that on her own initiative she found Valentine’s Day cards, sat down at the table and wrote them out for all of her friends! Now that is a superstar kid!
I always wonder what to get for my kids’ teachers for Valentine’s Day. At Christmas we made Bean’s teacher cry by making her a customized mug. She opened the gift, her mouth dropped open, her eyes got big and she ran over and gave Bean and I each a big hug. She said that it was the best gift that she has ever received from a student and how she will remember it forever.
That got me thinking… personal gifts are worth so much more than store bought gifts. Anyone can go out and buy their teacher a gift card or a box of chocolates, but how often does a student profess to their teacher how much they appreciate them and why AND capture it for them to look back on later?
I recently discovered a sweet little program called the OneDay App. It’s an instant move maker which uses themes to help you capture moments, stages of your child’s life and messages for families and loved ones. Each theme has question prompts that you read to the person being filmed and which they answer on camera.
It’s also a really fun way to capture different stages of your child’s life. I loved Bean’s answer in this video to the question “What will the world look like when you grow up?”
Even when the videos don’t go exactly according to plan, it’s still a great way to capture memories. Turtle, clearly was more interested in tearing apart his doctor’s kit when I was shooting this video about animal sounds, but just the memory of him surrounded by his stethoscope, blood pressure gauge and a pile of cars makes me smile.
Wouldn’t a little video like that bring a smile to a grandparent, aunt or uncle’s face?
So, still struggling to find a perfect little personalized last minute Valentine’s day gift? Hurry and download the OneDay app on iPhone or on Android (IT’S FREE!!!), sit your kids down tonight and whip up a bunch of movies for teachers and loved ones!
PS. There are also themes for adults to create a Valentine’s Day video for their significant other… But we’ll keep that video private for just The Hubs. 😉
Tell me… who would be the first person you created a video of and who would you send it to?
*Disclosure: I am part of the OneDay App blogger program and receive special perks as part of my affiliation with this group. As always, all thoughts and opinions are 100% my own. I will NEVER recommend a product to my readers unless I love it.
