You guys, I love to crochet. Like, seriously love, love, love, love, love it! My current obsession is making a cup of tea after the kids go to bed, putting on a podcast, snuggling up on the couch and crocheting. I love having a pattern that is repetitive, and that after doing a round or two I know, and don’t have to keep looking at the pattern. There is just something so zen about sitting down and watching a long line of yarn turn into a gorgeous project.
I’m definitely not a fast crocheter, I could never crochet things to sell, but it’s something that makes me very happy. My kids love watching me crochet too. Bean often comes down the stairs in the morning and goes to look at my crochet basket to see my progression from the night before.
I keep asking my girlfriends if they know how to crochet. I’d love to find a few friends who know how to do it so that we could crochet together, gab and enjoy a glass of wine. I learned how to crochet in one week thanks to a class that I took on Craftsy. I think online classes are the way to go when learning how to crochet, because you can pause the video and replay it repeatedly until you master each stitch.
The class I took on Craftsy is no longer available but this Crochet Basics and Beyond class from Kim Werker looks awesome. Additionally Creative Bug has a How To Crochet class with Carla Scott, the Executive Editor of Vogue Knitting International that looks great!
I always love picking my next crochet project and personalizing it by picking my own colors of yarn. I sometimes stumble trying to figure out what kind of yarn is appropriate for different projects and how much yarn I’ll need to complete what I’m making. There’s nothing worse than running out of yarn part way through a project, and winding up with way more yarn than you need for your intended project is never a good thing either.
Enter my new favorite website– We Are Knitters! The site is filled with gorgeous crochet and knitting projects. The wool that comes with the kits is beautiful quality. I’ve never crocheted with anything like it before. It’s 100% natural Peruvian wool and is thick, soft and so much fun to work with. It comes in 30 colors, so whatever project you pick can be personalized just for you! Because of the thickness of the wool, projects come together super fast, which made me feel like a superstar crocheter!
I picked the Plow Cushion Crochet Kit for my project with grey, bright red and light turquoise wool.
I love the colors used in vintage valentines and have been wanting to make a project that combined red, grey and turquoise for quite awhile.
After 2 evenings of crocheting and listening to podcasts I had a beautiful pillow! I adore the way the colors look together, and am so happy with my finished project. The wool is so soft, and it’s the perfect pillow to snuggle up with!
My next crochet project is making the We Are Knitters Poinsettia Blanket Crochet Kit to match! I’ve already started crocheting the granny squares for it! I’ll share my finished blanket as soon as I get it crocheted up!
We Are Knitters has crochet kits and knitting kits appropriate for both beginner and intermediate crocheters and knitters. Each kit says what level it’s for right below the name of the kit so it’s easy to see if the kit matches your skill level. They also sell crochet and knitting supplies, including skeins of their gorgeous wool, as well as other yarn. The site also has a ton of great “How To Videos“, along with a blog where knitters and crocheters can get endless inspiration.
Just in time for Christmas, We Are Knitters also has a Holiday Gift Guide to help you pick the perfect gifts for the creatives in your life!
