My family and I took our weekly trip to the farmer’s stand over the weekend. The moment that we walked in the door, Bean squealed. “Blueberries!!!” We have one rule when we visit the farmer’s stand over the summer– If the sign says local, you can put it in the cart. My kiddos are free to put in 1 of whatever they want, as long as it’s local. We are so lucky living in Vancouver because we have so much delicious local produce. The farmer’s stand we visit has huge fields behind it filled with herbs like basil, dill, mint, cilantro and chives, a wide variety of lettuces and hot houses filled with the most delicious little tomatoes. They bring in produce from other BC growers including strawberries, blueberries and raspberries and stone fruit– cherries, peaches, nectarines and italian plums and apples and pears from the Okanagan.
Summer meals for us revolve around fresh, local ingredients. We find that the best summer recipes are all about simplicity and that’s why I’m so excited about today’s HCF Recipe of the Day.
Today, Ann-Marie from Chaos is Bliss is sharing her simple and easy Blueberry Pie Recipe! Blueberries, sugar, flour, cinnamon, butter and lemon juice are all you need for the filling of this pie. Make your own crust or pick one up from the store if you prefer. Serve it up warm and top it with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. Summer perfection! I can’t wait to pick up more blueberries on my next trip to the farmer’s stand so that I can make a blueberry pie for my family!
