Hi crafty friends!

I want to take a moment to thank all of you who have sent me emails over the last few weeks. It’s been so lovely to hear from you, to learn about what you’ve been crafting and to get to know you.

I’ve heard from a lot of people how essential crafting has been for their mental health while social distancing. I feel so lucky that my cut files and tutorials have been among the things that are bringing you happiness during this trying time.

Please email me anytime. Nothing makes me happier than logging into my email in the morning and seeing different craft projects that you have made (whether they are projects that I have inspired, or something you made that has nothing to do with me that you are proud of). Email me anytime at crystal@hellocreativefamily.com.

Cricut Joy

One of the things that has brought me joy over the past 8 weeks is my new Cricut Joy! My mini but mighty crafting machine arrived on my doorstep the day that social distancing went into effect in Vancouver, and it’s been so much fun getting to know it and try out it’s new features!

A couple of weeks ago I shared 3 Cricut Joy projects that I made in 3 different rooms of my house (the joy of having a tiny cutting machine that you can take anywhere). This project I made in my craft room, since it’s easier to use my Cricut EasyPress there, but I love the flexibility of crafting anywhere with the Cricut Joy. It’s such an awesome little cutting machine!

I combined different elements from Cricut Access to create my own “Social Distancing Princess” and “Social Distancing Queen” shirts! They make the perfect Mother’s Day gift for a mom who is rocking the social distancing game.

Don’t have a Cricut Joy? No worries! You can make this project using your Cricut Maker or Cricut Explore too!

DIY Social Distancing Queen and Princess Shirts

Do you know a woman who is rocking the social distancing game? Make DIY Social Distancing Princess and Social Distancing Queen shirts for them! The perfect handmade gift for mom for Mothers Day, birthdays or just because! Shirt is made using the Cricut Joy, Cricut Explore or Cricut Maker. Materials:

Cricut Joy

Directions:

Step 1: Log into Cricut Design Space and then open the Social Distancing Princess and Queen Cut Files

Measure your shirts to decide what size you want your design and size the image accordingly. Click “Make It” in the upper right hand corner. Under the cutting mats on the left hand side of the screen, click the “mirror” sliders.

Click “continue”, select your Cricut machine and the type of iron-on you are using, load your cutting mat with the iron-on (shiny side down), and load it into your Cricut cutting machine. Change color of iron-on on cutting mat as prompted.

Step 2: Weed your designs removing iron-on around each design leaving just the design on the clear plastic backing.

Step 3: Preheat your Cricut EasyPress or iron using the EasyPress Heat Guide. Lay your design on the shirt with the clear plastic acting as a barrier between your EasyPress and the design. Press according to the instructions for the type of iron-on you are using. Carefully peel up the clear plastic, revealing your design!

Enjoy!

What else could you put these designs on? How about a mug or tote bag?
