We all know how important it is to practice self love and to adopt a practice of body positivity. This DIY workout gear will help you do just that and let other’s know your are cheering them on too!
Last week I shared with you my awesome DIY Body Positivity Hashtag Leggings. Today I’m back with a follow up! I’m going to teach you how to complete the look and make a Body Positive Hashtag Word Art Tank Top!
I’ve been sharing with you quite a bit lately about my lifelong struggle with my body image and about my recent change of mindset and how I’ve adopted an attitude of body positivity. I’ve done this by surrounding myself with positive role models and doing short, 20-30 minute workouts 6 days a week with the intention not to lose weight but instead to feel better about myself and improve my mental state.
As much as I’ve been talking the talk, I have down days and last week I had a few of them right in a row. It took spending some time with my mom and sister over the weekend to get me feeling recharged and ready to take on the world again.
Yesterday also marked day 90 of my 90 Day Bikini Body Mommy Fitness Challenge. I have been working out 6 days a week for 90 days without missing a single workout day. I worked out while I was sick, while I had period cramps, ridiculously early in the morning if we were going out of town for the day, on vacation, and on days where I had so much scheduled that I didn’t know how or where I would fit a workout in. I did it! I adopted a “No Excuses” mindset and got it done.
I want to thank all of you that sent me emails, commented on Facebook posts, DM’d me on Instagram and talked to me in real life. Knowing that you have all been there cheering me on means the world to me.
Today I am going to start a new fitness challenge so it seems like the perfect time to put this Body Positive workout top out into the world!

DIY Body Positive Hashtag Word Art Workout Top
-Tank top or workout shirt
-Measuring tape (I used the one from the Cricut Sewing Kit)
-Iron or Cricut EasyPress
A note about Cricut SportFlex Iron-On: I’m so in love with this new product from Cricut. I LOVE making shirts using my Cricut and have never had a problem making shirts for the kids, but have often run into some distortion in a design when I’m putting it on a fitted shirt for myself. SportFlex stretches over all your curves with no distortion or splitting. It’s an incredible product that I’ll be using a lot from now on for any clothing items for myself!
Step 1: Right click on my DIY Body Positive Hashtag Word Art above and save to your computer.
Step 2: Open Cricut Design Space. Select “New Project”. In the toolbar on the left hand side of your screen select “Upload”. On the next screen select “Upload Image” and then upload the Body Positive Hashtag Word Art image that you’ve saved to your computer.
On the next screen you will see your image uploaded on the left and 3 different options on the right. Select “Simple” and then press “Continue”.
On the following screen you will see your image with the letters in black surrounded by grey. On this screen you are telling Cricut what you want to be cut out of this image. You will do this by clicking all of the negative space (aka everything that is grey). Once you click it will turn that area to white and blue checkered boxes. One click on the main part of the negative space will fill in all of the area outside of your letters. You will need to click the inside of the letters and the inside of the hashtags.
You may need to use the + and – buttons to zoom in on the smaller words. You can also use the preview button to get a different view and see if you’ve missed any areas. When you are done click continue and save your cut file.
On the next screen you will see your image under your recently uploaded images page. Select it and press “insert images”.
Step 3: Make sure that your image is set to cut (you can do this on the right hand side of the screen where you see the image listed). Check to make sure it shows scissors. If it shows a printer click on the printer and change it to cut. Drag the corner of your image to make it the desired size you would like it for your shirt and then click “Make It”.
Step 4: On the next screen you will want to mirror your image. Do this by using the button that says “mirror” on the left hand side of the screen. Then press continue. If using a Cricut with a dial (aka not the Cricut Maker) set the dial to custom.
Select SportFlex Iron-On as your material from the material list. Place your SportFlex Iron-On on your cutting mat with the shiny side facing down. Load your Cricut with the mat and then click the cute little Cricut C to start cutting!
Step 5: Use your weeding tools to weed away the excess SportFlex including the iron-on around your words and all the center bits inside your letters and hashtags.
Step 6: Check your SportFlex packaging for the temperature for the type of fabric your shirt is made out of and set your iron or EasyPress to the appropriate setting.
Lay out your tank top or workout shirt and pre-heat it with your EasyPress or iron. Place your word art on the shirt, put your Cricut Iron On Protective Sheet (or your own protective sheet) on top and press. Press again from the back side of the shirt. I like using my braying tool to really push the iron-on down between each press. When your design has cooled carefully remove the clear plastic making sure that all the letters are firmly adhered to your shirt. If any areas are peeling up press again.
Viola! You have a gorgeous, body positive workout tank!
Pair it with your DIY Body Positivity Workout Leggings and you will crush any fitness activity, make others feel encouraged and fill yourself with self love!
