Some of you may know that I’ve been busy writing a book since March. 🙂 It was due to my editor at the beginning of June and then we’ve been doing edits and adding some additional content over July and August.

The book is called Caticorn Crafts and is available for pre-order here.

Caticorn Crafts: 25 Enchanted Uni-Kitty Projects by Crystal Allen from Hello Creative Family

The thing that I had the most fun working on during the editing and finalization process was creating images that were used throughout the pages of the book.

Since we think that the book will appeal to crafters of all ages, we wanted to make sure that there were safety icons in the book for any of the tools that younger crafters might want to get an adult to help with.

My editor and I looked at stock images for something that we thought would be cute to use, but couldn’t find anything that seemed like a good fit, so I decided to draw them myself!

I’m pretty smitten with how the images turned out (in fact some might call me a smitten uni-kitten) and I can think of a million and one fun uses for them. Today I decided to share with you one of those uses– Stickers!!!

I’m truly a child of the 80’s and I love fun and colorful stickers. I decided to use my Cricut’s Print and Cut feature to turn my fun designs to sticker life!

My Cricut Maker has been travelling around with me on the road for the past few months, and my Cricut Explore Air 2 was feeling a bit neglected so I decided to use that machine for this project. Whichever Cricut you own will work great for this project!

DIY Craft Tool Stickers

Materials:

Cricut Maker or Cricut Explore (prefer shopping on Amazon? Find the Cricut Maker here and the Cricut Explore here.)

Regular Grip Cutting Mat

Cricut Printable Vinyl (you could also use Cricut Printable Sticker Paper, but I find that the sticker paper is a lot thicker than the vinyl. I love how easy the vinyl is to reposition if you don’t put it exactly where you want it. Prefer shopping on Amazon? Find Printable Vinyl here.)

Directions:

Step 1: Right click on my image of the craft tools above and save to your computer. Open Cricut Design Space and start a new project. Click the “Upload” from the tool bar on the left hand side of the screen. Select the craft tools image that you saved and then click “Upload”.

Select “Complex” as your image type. On the next screen click “Continue” and then choose “Print and Cut” as your image type.

Name your image, save your image and then insert it onto your project. Next you’ll want to size your image. The largest that you can do a Print and Cut image is 6.75″ x 9.25″. Once you have it correctly sized click “Make It”.

Select your cutting machine, lay your printable vinyl on your cutting mat and select the material you are cutting. Load your mat and press the Cricut C to cut.

Note: Usually when making stickers I select “Printable Vinyl” as my cutting material so that my Cricut does a “kiss cut” (aka it only cuts through the top layer of the vinyl, and leaves the backing intact). I wanted stickers that were fully cut out for this project, like the stickers from my childhood so I selected cardstock as my cutting material so that it would cut all the way through.

Step 2: Weed away the outsides of your stickers and the little center bits. (The cord on the glue gun ended up being too fine to cut on my sticker sheet so I trimmed it off. I decided to leave it on in the image I provided incase you cut it in a larger size.)
