This easy DIY sidewalk chalk paint will let your kids become master sidewalk artists! It’s made using ingredients you already have at home and cleans up easily with a spray with the hose!
Summer break has officially begun for many of our friends in the US and we know that you mamas and daddos are on the hunt for activities that will keep their kids busy while exercising their creative muscle!
My kids love creating art, but usually that seems to be more of an indoor activity. During the summer I love to get us all outdoors, enjoying the fresh air. Last summer we started making DIY Sidewalk Chalk Paint and since then the kids ask for it every time the sun starts to shine.
Our chalk painting parties usually start out innocent enough… but often turns into a chalk paint splatter party! The kids get covered top to bottom in paint. Luckily, with the simple ingredients this recipe uses, cleanup is a breeze. Jut pop the kiddos in the bath, the paint covered clothes in the wash and everyone (and everything) is cleaned up in minutes.
We usually leave chalk art outside to be enjoyed for awhile, but it will easily be cleaned up with a spray of the hose or a good rain shower.
This chalk paint is so easy to make, I bet you have all the ingredients right in your cupboard! Read on for the recipe!
Easy DIY Sidewalk Chalk Paint With Ingredients You Already Have At Home
Ingredients:
-Corn Starch
-Water
-Food Coloring or Water Color Paints
Other Materials:
-Mason jar, muffin tin, plastic containers or something else to mix and hold your paint in.
-Brushes for painting. We used foam brushes from the craft store. Fingers are fun to paint with too.
Instructions:
1. Mix 1 part water with 1 part corn starch. Shake or stir to combine. (I put 1 cup of corn starch with 1 cup of water in a mason jar. Put a lid on and shook it hard for 30 seconds.) Voila! You have your chalk paint base!
2. Pour your chalk paint base into/onto your pallet. (I used a muffin tin.)
3. Drop a few drops of food coloring or watercolor paint into your paint and stir to combine. Add more drops for a more vibrant shade. Don’t forget to mix colors to get different colors… red and yellow for orange, red and blue for purple, blue and yellow for green, etc.
4. Take your paint outside and have fun creating art! Mix the paint with your brush a little bit each time you dip in for more paint for best results. The corn starch will start to settle.
5. The colors will become even more vibrant as your chalk paint starts to dry. Want to turn it into a splatter paint party? Load your brush up and shake your brush with a flip of the wrist! Have fun!
Print it for later!
