I love making DIY spice blends. They are super yummy, they aren’t full of preservatives the way store bought spice blends are and they make great gifts for foodies. Just pop them in a small mason jar (or even better a mod podged spice jar using our tutorial) and you are good to go!
As if no preservatives wasn’t reason enough to make these spice blends, they also cost pennies compared to the store bought blends.
Today I thought I would share with you my Homemade Ranch and Taco Seasoning Recipes.
Taco Seasoning Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1 tablespoon ground cumin
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1/4 tablespoon crushed red pepper
Stir together and then seal in an airtight jar or container.
- 2 tablespoons dried parsley
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried dill
- 1/2 teaspoon cracked black pepper
Stir together and then seal in an airtight jar or container.
What can you do with these spice blends you ask? Well what can’t you do? Whip up a batch of my Crockpot Ranch Chicken Tacos that uses both of these spice blends. You can also make ranch dip by combining 1 cup of sour cream with 1 cup of mayo and 2 tablespoons of ranch seasoning. You can add taco seasoning to your meat for tacos. You can add either spice blend to eggs, when grilling meat or on popcorn. Explore! The world is your oyster.
I hope you enjoy my Homemade Ranch and Taco Seasoning Recipes.
Tell me: What kind of gifts do you give to the foodies in your life? Do you make homemade spice blends? What are some things that you make homemade instead of buying at the store to save money?

Hi Dani,
It’s the perfect Christmas gift for foodies. I have a lemon pepper post too. My dad asks me to make him lemon pepper now for Christmas, his birthday and Father’s Day. He tries to sneak in holiday’s too. “Want to make me lemon pepper for flag day?” LOL.

How taco seasoning do you typically use for 1 lb. of ground beef?

Hi Catherine,
Great question. I usually just kind of eyeball it. Maybe half a tablespoon?
