Hi Crafty Friends!

Some of you may know that Hello Creative Family’s tagline is Handmade. Homemade. Heart-Made. When I think about making Heart-Made things for my kids two categories come to mind:

  1. Things they really want for me to make for them
  2. Things that they didn’t realize they needed until I put it in their hands and then they can’t imagine their life without it

During the school year I do affirmations with my kids every morning before they leave for school. We have done it for years now. My kids are always good sports about it, but as they are getting older you can tell that they have almost been doing it to humor “good old mom”.

Then there was a morning where we missed morning affirmations because I wasn’t home. The next morning my kids said to me “Mom, I didn’t realize what an important part of my day our affirmations are until we didn’t do them yesterday. Do you think you can record them for us in case you ever aren’t here again in the morning?”

The truth is, affirmations really hold a lot of power. Everyone can benefit from the extra positivity in their life, no matter their age.

Our schedule is pretty different over the summer months, so the kids and I don’t usually do our morning affirmations in July and August. When I think about going back to school in the fall, one of the things I look forward to the most is starting our our morning affirmation tradition again.

Cricut recently challenged me to create some back to school gear using my Cricut Maker 3. One of the things that I love the most about my Cricut cutting machine is that it allows me to customize almost anything!

Cricut cutting machines are for everyone– whether they consider themselves crafty or not. Trust me, if you aren’t a crafty person your Cricut will get you there!

For teachers, your Cricut cutting machine can help you create the classroom of your dreams with personalized classroom decorations, educational posters, organizational labels and so much more. You can also use it into your curriculums, art classes, lesson planning, the possibilities are truly endless.

For parents, the Cricut can help you create those first day of school signs, wall calendars to help you get organized and all those extracurricular activities scheduled and written down, and labeling jackets, lunch bags, water bottles, backpacks and more.

My motto is with my Cricut “If I can dream it, I can craft it!” And when Cricut asked me to make some back to school gear I immediately started dreaming about colorful water bottles, bento boxes and lunchbox notes covered in feel good messages of positivity!

Design Space did not disappoint when it came to positivity related images– quick searches for kindness, positivity, happiness and affirmations yielded thousands of results. The hardest part was narrowing down my favorites!

I created three projects for my Cricut back to school gear– a water bottle, a bento box and ton of positive affirmation lunchbox notes.

I originally had planned on customizing a lunch bag too, to put the bento box in but just as I was about to make it I decided to do a last minute heat test. And what do you know? Insulated lunch bags melt when heat is applied to them! I’m passing this information along to you as a reminder to always do a heat test before applying HTV to a material that you haven’t used before!

I hope that these projects bring a bit of happiness to your day and that they inspire you to make them yourself and to do affirmations with your littles! It’s such a lovely tradition that your kids will look back on fondly when they are grown up.

Have you heard of Dr. Masaru Emoto and his water experiments? He exposed water to words and found that the molecular structure of the water changed depending on the word. Positive words created beautiful snowflake like designs in their molecules, where negative words created more ravaged looking molecules.

I’ve always thought that this experiment is so powerful and it has stuck with me. It makes me wonder if I covered my kids lunch box and water bottle with powerful words of encouragement, in what ways would they absorb it? I think the mental impact of seeing those words every day is so powerful, but it’s also really interesting to wonder if the words of positivity would be absorbed in other ways as well.

Irregardless of if you are a believer in Dr Emoto’s experiment or not, this water bottle and bento box are a great way to add some positivity to your child’s day.

Step 4: Weed your vinyl, removing the excess vinyl from around your design leaving just the design behind on the paper backing. Don’t forget about the middles of all of your letters!

Step 5: Use isopropyl alcohol to clean the surface of your water bottle and bento box to get rid of any fingerprints and oil.

Step 6: Use transfer tape to transfer your designs to your water bottle and bento box. To do this, cut a piece of transfer tape slightly larger than your design, peel the paper backing off of your tape and lay it on top of your vinyl design. Use a scraper tool to rub all over the front and back of your vinyl, pushing it onto the tape. Peel up the transfer tape carefully, making sure that all your vinyl comes up off of the paper backing. Then lay your design on your water bottle or bento box where you would like it to be. Run your scraper tool over the top, pushing the vinyl onto your surface. Carefully peel up your transfer tape leaving the design behind.

Repeat for each of your designs. I put vinyl inside the bento box too that say main, snack, treat and dip.

For longevity of your water bottle and bento box designs let the vinyl cure for 48 hours before using. When cleaning don’t soak bento box or water bottle in water or put in the dishwasher. Hand washing is fine.

I love putting notes in my kids lunches so that they get a reminder of just how much I love them and are thinking of them each day. I’ve made handwritten/hand drawn lunch box notes in the past, but to be honest keeping up and doing it each and every day can become overwhelming.

I decided to create these Print Then Cut affirmation cards that you can put in your child’s lunch to give them a burst of positivity in their day. I also love the idea of my kids leaving these notes for other kids in their class that they think could use them. They would also be great to put in random places in public as small random acts of kindness!
