Hey hey crafty friends! We have a busy week here on Hello Creative Family gearing up for back to school! Today my #TotallyFreeSVG crew and I are doing a bonus round that focuses on Homeschool SVG Cut Files!

School officially restarts in BC on September 10th. As of right now, it looks like schools will be reopening for full time, in classroom learning. I’ll admit, I’m struggling with this idea.

I recognize that I live a very privileged life. I work from home and I have the ability to make a “school at home” option work for my kids.

Many of my friends, don’t have a choice. Because of their jobs they need to send their kids to school. I have friends who work in hospitals, friends who are principals and teachers, friends who are fire fighters and friends who are in other jobs that are essential services that have to go to work each day so that we can continue to live the lives that we are living.

They are feeling scared about sending their kids back to school. My friends who are teachers, principals and EAs are scared to go back into the classrooms with so much uncertainty. I don’t blame them for being scared. Therefore I started to think about ways that I could lighten that load a bit in my own small way.

It only makes sense to me that if there are less people in a classroom, that the people in the class are at less risk. Because of this, my husband and I have made the decision to take our kids out of public school and enrol them in an independent school that has a school at home option.

Homeschooling here we come…

I’ve told a handful of friends about this decision, but I haven’t told our elementary school yet, or my friends on the PAC (Canadian speak for PTA). I’m very active at my children’s school, we can see the school from our living room window, and the thought of not sending my kids there every day, and stepping away from my role at the school is quite frankly heartbreaking.

We submitted our application for the independent school where we hope our kids will be accepted a little over a week ago. I’m waiting to hear if we got in or not to make the official announcement and I know that I’m going to shed more than a few tears while doing it.

It’s hard. This whole pandemic sucks. I’m over it. But in the meantime my main priority is keeping my kids healthy and safe and doing whatever I can to help keep others safe too.

So I guess that means we home school this year, and that I will officially be a homeschooling mama! Which brings me to today’s homeschool svg.
