The perfect DIY project to complete an emoji themed kids room or an emoji birthday party! These DIY Emoji Door Hangers are easy to make and a fun kids craft. Use your Cricut to cut the his and her kissy face emoji faces and apply them to painted styrofoam disks.
You guys, I feel like such a tween-age girl even typing this… but I’ve got emojis on my mind! I don’t know why, but I just can’t get over the cuteness of them. I think it all started for me when I bought these Emoji Sketchers for my daughter for Christmas.
So cute right? I want a pair for myself but unfortunately they only come in kids sizes, and I’m not one of those lucky ladies with tiny feet who can wear kids sizes. If you are, or if you have an emoji loving kid, you can find these emoji shoes here.
My first emoji craft were these DIY Emoji Squishy Stress Balls. They turned out so cute and my kids pretty much named me “mom of the year” because I was able to create a DIY project that was so “on trend” for them and their friends.
My next emoji craft was at Easter when I decided to take some of my favorite emojis from my phone and print them onto temporary tattoo paper and then transfer them to Easter Eggs. My kids thought this was awesome. Bringing a hard boiled egg to school for lunch never looked so cool! If you want the free printable and instructions for making these eggs you can find my DIY Marbled Emoji Easter Eggs Tutorial here.
Today friends I’m back with a brand new emoji project– His and Her DIY Emoji Door Hangers. Your kiddos are going to have so much fun with this project and they will LOVE decorating their bedrooms with the results. Ready to get started? Read on!
His and Her DIY Emoji Door Hangers
Materials:
-Floracraft Styrofoam Disk in desired size (this is the one that I used)
-FloraCraft Smooth Finish (find it here)
–Putty knife or spatula (alternatively you can use a paintbrush)
-Yellow Paint (I used Sunny Day Americana Acrylic Paint)
-Foam brush (I love buying them in bulk, you can find them here)
–Cricut Maker or Cricut Explore (You can also find the Cricut Maker here and the Cricut Explore here)
–My Cricut Emoji Face Cut File
Directions:
Step 1: Using your putty knife, spatula or paint brush, smooth the FloraCraft Smooth Finish onto the styrofoam. Press the product firmly the styrofoam, running your putty knife across the styrofoam in all directions to get it into the cells of the styrofoam. Allow to dry. Sand using fine grit sand paper and then repeat the process one more time- puttying, allowing to dry and then sanding.
Step 2: Using your foam brush, paint your circle yellow.
Step 3: Measure your styrofoam disk. Open My Cricut Emoji Face Cut File in Cricut Design Space. Size the face to the size you want it (I put the grey circles into the file so that I could see the size of the styrofoam and how big I wanted my faces to be. I then hid them when it was time to cut). Click Make It and cut the vinyl using your Cricut.
Step 4: Weed away the parts of the vinyl you won’t be using leaving just the emoji face, hearts and hair bow on the paper backing.
Using transfer tape, transfer the faces onto the styrofoam disks.
Step 5: Cut your ribbon to the length that you want the hangers to hang. Using your sewing pins, poke a hole through each end of the ribbon, securing it into the side of the styrofoam.
Hang on your door and enjoy!

Cute! My daughter has a slight obsession with all things emojis. She’d love to make something like this to keep her busy this summer. Visiting from The Scoop party.
