Hi Crafty Friends! Christmas is going to be here before you know it, so today I thought I’d share with you one of my favorite foodie gift ideas– hot chocolate bombs!

I love making hot cocoa bombs because they are one part craft, one part recipe and a whole lot of fun. Hot chocolate bombs were the food trend of fall 2020/ winter 2021 and they have not gone anywhere ever since.

They look super impressive but they are fairly simple to make and a fun way to spend the afternoon in the kitchen with your kids!

The concept of hot chocolate bombs is fairly simple– melt candy melts, chocolate chips or chocolate bars in a double boiler or the microwave in a microwave-safe bowl in 30 second intervals.

Place the dark chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl and microwave in 30 second intervals, stirring between each interval, until the chocolate chips are fully melted.

Pour a thin layer of the the melted chocolate into a silicone candy mold, and allow to harden into a delicious chocolate shell.

Put a spoonful of melted chocolate inside one cup on the silicone mold and use the back of the spoon to spread the chocolate up the sides of the mold. Continue this process until all the molds are coated.

Fill the half sphere with hot cocoa mix, mini marshmallows, chopped up candy canes or your choice of other delicious flavors.

When the chocolate is set, remove each of the chocolate pieces from the mold. Add a small amount of instant hot cocoa mix to half the pieces and top the hot cocoa mix with marshmallows and half the sprinkles.

Next use melted chocolate to seal the two half of your spheres together.

Reheat the chocolate in 15 second intervals until melted. Pick up an empty chocolate piece and dip the edges into the melted chocolate. Carefully place it on top of a filled piece and lightly press it into place. Use your finger to smooth melted chocolate around the seam. Continue until all the chocolate bombs are sealed.

Drizzle with melted chocolate and top with sprinkles, or hints at the ingredients that or inside!

Melt the red and white chocolate according to the package instructions, then place the melted chocolate into piping bags. Drizzle the chocolate over the top of the bombs to decorate. Sprinkle red sprinkles over the top of the bombs and add three heart sprinkles to the top. Allow the chocolate decorations to set before using, around 1 hour.

How To Serve A Hot Chocolate Bomb

When your ready to serve, put a hot chocolate bomb into a mug, pour hot milk on top, stir with a spoon and watch the hot chocolate bomb explode into a cup of hot chocolate goodness!

These yummy chocolate spheres are so easy to customize with different sizes and shapes of silicone molds! You can make them with white chocolate, milk chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate, dark chocolate or melting wafers!

You can also customize them with different flavors of hot chocolate mix, your fillings and colors/flavors of drizzle on top!
