20+ Chex Mix Recipes

What is it about Chex Mix? It’s just so stinking good and everyone seems to have their own favorite way to make it!
One of my favorite holiday memories is having a “Chex Off” with my mom, her uncle and a few other family members. Everyone made their favorite version and the rest of us got to play the judges and vote for our favorites.
At the end there was no clear winner because we all had our own preferences! Some of us liked a savory Chex Mix, some liked a sweet Chex Mix and some of us liked a sweet and salty combo! Some liked corn chex and others like wheat chex. What we all agreed on is that whatever the combination of melted butter, salt, nuts, and different flavors like garlic powder, onion powder, cheese crackers all mixed together in a large bowl is simply divine!
So without further ado, check out all the recipes below! Just like my family’s “Chex Off” there is no clear winner here– they are all so mouth watering and yummy!
Tips for your Chex Mix

Before we dive in, here are a few common Chex Mix questions and tips to help you make the best Chex mix.
Why Is My Chex Mix Not Crispy?
The key to a great Chex mix is the crunch. No one likes soggy Chex mix. If the recipe calls for liquids like worcestershire sauce, melted butter, caramel, etc, don’t rush. Give time for everything to absorb and/or evaporate so that your Chex doesn’t get soggy. Don’t let things burn, low and slow is best for Chex mix, but a little extra time in the oven or air fryer helps keeps it all crispy.
How Do I Keep My Chex Mix From Breaking Into Little Pieces?
On the topic of liquids, be gentle while mixing everything together. Be gentle and mix all the ingredients together by slowly folding your mixture to avoid crushing the fragile ingredients like Cheerios, crackers, and, of course, the Chex. Make sure you gently pour your Chex mix onto your parchment paper lined baking sheet/ sheet pan. You may even want to consider using a large roasting pan which will make it easier to gently fold your mixture throughout cooking without it spilling over.
What Is The Best Way To Store Homemade Chex Mix?
Storing your delicious snack in an airtight container will help make sure things don’t get soggy and you have days of crunchy snacks. And by airtight, I mean airtight! Ziplocks bags, containers with tight snap-on lids, and mason jars with a rubber seal are all good options.
How do you make Chex mix less salty?
One of the downsides of Chex mix cereal mixture is that it can be high in sodium and many of us are watching our salt content. Many ingredients may already contain salt–nuts, butter, pretzels, cereals, seasoned salt, spices– and adding them all together can result in a mix that is too salty. Pay attention to the salt in the ingredients you are adding and look for salt free alternatives, for example with unsalted butter, unsalted nuts and salt free spices.
What If I Can’t Find A Specific Chex Mix Ingredient?
Be flexible with your ingredients. Chex is all about experimenting and if you’re missing a specific ingredient like M&M’s, use something similar like chocolate chips. Substitute almonds for cashews, toss in crackers instead of popcorn. Be creative! Who knows, you may discover a new homemade Chex Mix recipe favorite!
