When I was a kid, my mom made a “dirt cake” once that was pretty much my favorite thing ever. She put it into a brand new, clean terra cotta flower pot. It had some kind of pudding base and the top was covered in crushed Oreos that looked like soil. There was a fake flower sticking out of the pot and gummy worms were buried inside and peeking their heads through the Oreo soil.
My cousins, sister and I loved this cake. We would ask my mom to make it every time we got together for a special occasion. It wasn’t something that we had every day, but it was fun, festive, super yummy and we all thought it was hilarious. “Happy birthday! Here’s a pot of dirt!”
One of my favorite parenting philosophies when it comes to making my kids feel special is “What would my mom do?” This Halloween, with Covid and no trick or treating, I’ve been having that feeling a lot.

Bug Punch Halloween Drink Recipe With Slippery, Slimy Worms
Ingredients
- 4 ounces green Hawaiian punch
- 4 ounces lemon lime soda
- Sour gummy worms
- Whipped cream
- Green sanding sugar
- Ice
Instructions
- Place a few sour gummy worms in the bottom of a glass.
- Fill the glass with ice.
- Pour the green punch in the glass.
- Top with lemon lime soda.
- Top with a small amount of whipped cream.
- Garnish with green sanding sugar and more sour gummy worms. Enjoy this special Halloween treat!
