Christmas is just around the corner and I’m counting down the days with my favorite gifts for the creative people in your life.
Day 3- Roominate Wired Building Toys
I love toys that inspire my kids to create and use their imagination. I was raised by parents who were creatives. My dad is a builder. My mom sews, draws, bakes and crafts. My sister and I were raised to use our imaginations when we played and to express ourselves creatively. I’ve tried to pass the same life lessons along to my kids.
My motto with my kids is simple:
Only boring people get bored. We are creative people and creative people use their imagination to keep themselves entertained.
Simple right? Also, so true.
Do you watch Shark Tank?
Shark Tank is one of my favorite shows. I love hearing all of the amazing, creative ideas that entrepreneurs come up with and see if they have their “stuff” together enough to wow the sharks.
One of my favorite recent episodes was when Alice Brooks and Bettina Chen were on the show presenting their business– Roominate. Alice and Bettina met at Stanford where they were two of the few females in their engineering program. On the show, Alice told the story of when her father gave her a saw for Christmas one year, instead of the doll she had originally wanted (a story I can relate to), and how that gift set her on a path to becoming an engineer.
Spoiler Alert: Alice and Bettina got a deal from Mark Cuban and Lori Greiner. Mark set a condition on the deal, that his two daughters (ages 7 & 10) would get to come visit the offices and have Alice and Bettina as mentors. Such a great dad.
So what is Roominate?
Roominate is an award-winning, customizable line of wired building toys that inspire open-ended hands-on play.
Marketed towards girls but fun for both sexes, the possibilities for what kids can make with their Roominate building toys is endless. Here are a few projects:
Wood Burning Stove
Cool right? When I saw Roominate featured on Shark Tank I knew that it was the perfect gift for creative kids! Check out all of the different Roominate sets that are available here, but remember the theme of each set is just a starting point. Encourage your child’s imagination to soar!
Want to see more?
Watch Alice demonstrate Roominate and talk about why she would like to see more girls interested in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math and her vision for getting them interested with Roominate.
Roominate is available online as well as at stores across the US and Canada including Toys R Us, Indigo, Amazon, RadioShack and Walmart.
*Thank you to Roominate for sending us a set of their wired building toys. All thoughts and opinions on this site are 100% my own.
